Physiology Scholarship

Anne E. (Betty) Atwater Scholarship Endowment for Undergraduate Education in the Department of Physiology

The Atwater Physiology Scholarship was created in 2014 by a gift from Professor Emerita Anne E. (Betty) Atwater, a faculty member at the University of Arizona for 34 years and Director of the Physiology Undergraduate Program before her retirement in 2003.  The Atwater Physiology Scholarship annually awards $1,000 to an undergraduate physiology or pre-physiology major.

The recipient must have completed a two-semester “Anatomy and Physiology” course sequence (e.g., PSIO 201 and 202 or equivalent) with grades of C or higher, as required for admission to the physiology major. Students applying for this scholarship must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and have at least one year (two semesters)  to complete before graduation. Merit is the primary consideration, with financial need as secondary.

The application announcement and due date will be publicized via the PSIO listserv in the spring of each year. Typically, the due date will be approximately two weeks following completion of the spring semester. Applications must be submitted within the UA online “Scholarship Universe.” The Department of Physiology Scholarship Committee will review all applications and select the scholarship winner. The scholarship winner (and non-winners) will be notified in early July.
