All students planning to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree with a major in physiology, including transfer students, must initially enroll in the pre-physiology (PRP) major. New students entering the University of Arizona should apply for admission directly to the Office of Admissions and specify their major as "pre-physiology" in the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine. Admission to the pre-major does not guarantee admission to the major or to advanced standing. Before registering for classes, new students should contact the Physiology Undergraduate Program office (520) 621-4850 to schedule an advising appointment.
The physiology pre-major gives students an opportunity to gauge their preparation for more advanced courses, and to assess whether this program is an appropriate fit for their skills, and academic and career goals.
The degree identified for the pre-physiology (PRP) major is “undecided” because the University of Arizona does not allow students to graduate with a “pre-major.” Instead, it is necessary to apply for and gain admission to the physiology major in order to graduate with the BS in Health Sciences degree.
The Academic Advisement Report for the pre-physiology major displays the requirements and approved courses for this program.
The Physiology Major Curriculum Guideline check sheet and sample four-year plans ( Plan 1, Plan 2A, Plan 2B, Plan 3A, Plan 3B, Plan 4 for completing the physiology major are provided to assist students in meeting university, college, and major requirements. It is strongly recommended that students meet with a physiology academic advisor each semester during their New Student Orientation Slide Show undergraduate career.
