At the March 17 Match Day ceremony, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Class of 2023 learned where they will spend the next three to seven years of their careers as physicians in specialized residency training programs.

Interprofessional education modules at the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center teach students the importance of teamwork in health care.

Senior MD/PhD student and Department of Physiology alumni Ike Chinyere, PhD, was awarded a Biosense Webster Inc. medical student scholarship through the Association of Black Cardiologists earlier this month at the 2022 ABC gala in Atlanta.

Dr. Fiona Bailey was featured in a Self Magazine article titled, "5 Deep Breathing Exercises to Try When You Really Need a Minute".

University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson medical students received their white coats representing their future profession on July 29 at Centennial Hall.

A superhero and coffee enthusiast, Kathleen LeFiles is a ‘Wildcat Wonder.’ She was raised in Tucson, AZ, and attended the University of Arizona as a physiology major for undergrad. Even prior to that, though, she had discovered an interest in medicine.
It was during her freshman year of high school in biology class, as she was learning about the cardiovascular system. She was absolutely fascinated by the heart’s design and function.

That interest fueled her to learn more. And with the unwavering support of her family and friends, she was able to follow that desire to pursue her education all the way to medical school.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden and unexpected death of our colleague, William Dantzler, MD, PhD, a member of the Founding Faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He was widely regarded as the foremost international authority on comparative renal physiology and is remembered for his warmth, wisdom and respect. His passing leaves a large void, and he is greatly missed by many in our community.

Trevor Nolan Tankersley is graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences in physiology and medical sciences. Tankersley was born in Phoenix.

Interested in health care and medicine, Tankersley joined Alpha Epsilon Delta his sophomore year of college, a national health pre-professional honors society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in pre-professional health scholarship. Through AED, Tankersley participated in many community-driven volunteering events and attended many health-oriented lectures. He also volunteered at Z Mansion, working with those experiencing homelessness, and the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation, an organization that engages young students interested in STEM who are underrepresented in these fields.

Ceremony will honor alumni completing residencies, students receiving medical degrees and students who are preparing to enter medical school in July.
