Meet Gabe

  • Why I love being a PSIO student at the University of Arizona: The PSIO degree allowed me to explore many areas of healthcare than I had anticipated. I initially planned to become a chiropractor and then switched to physical therapy, and finally settled on going to medical school to become a physician. The PSIO degree is not a set path to becoming only one profession but allows you to find what you like based on the content that you learn in class and how you would like to apply it in a professional setting. I have enjoyed every professor that I have learned from and it makes it better since many of them are alumni and truly care about UofA.
  • What I'm involved in outside the classroom: I am a practicing Emergency Medical Technician and I volunteer with the University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services(UAEMS) which is a student-run EMS agency that gets dispatched to all medical-related calls and runs alongside the Tucson Fire Department. I am also the CPR coordinator for UAEMS where I am in charge of hosting classes teaching CPR for both laypersons and BLS healthcare workers. I am the Vice President of 'Give at UA' which is a student organization that advocates for college students to volunteer in countries all over the world through sustainable travel and community work in partnership with 'Give Volunteers' as well as volunteering in Tucson. I work in the Research Incubator which is a part of the Research Engagement department in the main library where I support research projects for anyone apart of the U of A and also I create new research services as well as host workshops throughout the semester.
  • Future plans: I plan on taking a couple of gap years to earn my master's as well as applying to Medical School in the future or joining the Green Valley Fire Department.
  • Ask me about: How to become an EMT, how to balance work/life, which clubs to join, going on a 'Give volunteers' trip.
