Where

The University of Arizona's College of Medicine-Tucson Department of Physiology presents the Seminars in Translational and Advanced Research (STAR) series, hosting Dr. Christine Klemens from University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine.

Dr. Klemens’ main research drive is to translate the molecular and cellular function of channels, transporters, and associated proteins to a broader perspective of their function at the organ and systemic levels. After spending time as a research technician in two different arrhythmia research labs, she decided to pursue a PhD at the University of Pittsburgh and switched from cardiac ion channels to renal ion transport.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Butterworth, Dr. Klemens investigated how an aldosterone-regulated miRNA target, Ankyrin G, increased renal Na⁺ transport through increased trafficking of the Epithelial Sodium Channel. She continued her postdoctoral training at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she continued to investigate different channels and transporters associated with cardiovascular and renal diseases, including purinergic receptors in diabetic nephropathy and the role of ClC-6.

Join us in-person at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025 in Arizona Health Sciences Center, Room 8403

The lecture will also be available via Zoom.
