The University of Arizona's College of Medicine-Tucson Department of Physiology presents the Seminars in Translational and Advanced Research (STAR) series, hosting Dr. Ranier Gutierrez from National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico.

Dr. Gutiérrez earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Institute of Cellular Physiology at UNAM. He later completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University, where he specialized in the field of electrophysiology and the gustatory system in freely moving animals.

In 2009, he founded the Laboratory of Appetite Neurobiology at CINVESTAV-IPN. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the Head of the Department of Pharmacology at CINVESTAV. Currently, he is a Level III member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and a research professor at the Center for Research on Aging (CIE) at CINVESTAV.

His line of research is the neural control of appetite, with a focus on discovering the neural circuits that regulate the excessive consumption of highly palatable foods—from the processes of sweet taste perception to the neural control of appetite.

Join us in-person at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025 in Arizona Health Sciences Center, Room 8403

The lecture will also be available via Zoom.
