The University of Arizona's College of Medicine-Tucson Department of Physiology presents the Seminars in Translational and Advanced Research (STAR) series, hosting Dr. Sakthivel Sadayappan, Professor and Department Chair of Cellular & Molecular Medicine, University of Arizona, College of Medicine - Tucson.
Dr. Sakthivel Sadayappan was raised in the rural town of Pattiveeranpatti in Tamil Nadu, India, where he was expected to become a coconut farmer. Encouraged by his parents to pursue education, he developed an early fascination with plant biology and completed his undergraduate degree in Botany. His passion for science led him through rigorous graduate and doctoral training, eventually culminating in his appointment as Professor and Chair of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
Dr. Sadayappan's research is driven by a deep commitment to improving muscle health, with a long-term goal of preventing and treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, distal arthrogryposis of skeletal muscle, and smooth muscle-related diseases.
