Individual Studies Application Request
Individual Study courses provide students with an opportunity for education that extends beyond the normal classroom experience. Various types of independent study formats allow a student to integrate experience and learning in several unique ways outside the usual content of academic courses. The following are Individual Study courses available in the Department of Physiology:
- PSIO 399/499 (Independent Study)
- PSIO 399H/499H (Honors Independent Study)
- PSIO 492 (Directed Research)
- PSIO 498H (Honors Thesis)
*The last day to submit your completed Individual Studies form for the Fall semester is Monday, November 4th, 2024! Please request you application with enough time to complete and submit the form by the deadline.
*Please note: if you will exceed the 19-unit limit to add your Individual Studies units, you will need submit the Petition to Raise Maximum Units. Without the petition, you will not be enrolled in your Individual Studies units, so please be sure to complete that as soon as possible.
Petition to Raise Maximum Units
The University of Arizona limits the number of units you can enroll in each term, and the maximum number of units varies depending on the term. If you need to exceed the number of units in a term, you can submit a petition to try to have your maximum units raised for that semester.
General Petition
As a Physiology & Medical Sciences student, you may petition the University General Petitions Committee for relief if they believe they deserve redress or exception to university rules, regulations, or policies regarding academic affairs. Please review this important information on the general petition process.
- Petitions are collected until the last official day of classes (not finals) for a term. After this deadline, you may still submit petitions; however, it will not be reviewed until the next semester.
- Students have one year to file their petition.
Change Schedule (add/drop classes)
During each semester/session, you have a certain window of time to add/drop classes in your UAccess Student Center. After that window closes, you will need to submit a Change of Schedule form.
- Refer to the registration dates and deadlines that determine when schedule changes are allowed. Note that 5-week courses, 7-week courses, dynamically-dated courses, or those with non-standard start and end dates have different deadlines for adding and dropping.
- For regular term courses, withdrawals filed before the first deadline (at the end of the 2nd week of classes) will result in the course being deleted from the student's permanent record and no "W" grade will be assessed.
- For course withdrawals filed between the first and second withdrawal deadlines (between the 2nd and 10th week of classes) the grade of "W" is awarded.
Late Change Petition
If you miss the final deadline to withdraw from a course during a semester/session but still wish to try to drop the course, you can submit a Late Change Petition. In the petition, you will need to explain why you were unable to drop the course by the provided deadlines and may be asked to provide further documentation. Please note: submission of a Late Change Petition does not guarantee approval, so you may not be allowed to drop the course(s) you're requesting.
Other Student Forms
There are a variety of other forms that you may need to complete during your time as an undergraduate student, which can be found through the Office of the Registrar. Please be sure to read the official policies associated with any form you need to complete.
